Weeks Between Dates Calculator

This tool shows how many weeks are between two given dates.

Calculator: weeks between dates

Calculation Settings

By default, the calculation includes the start date and excludes the end date. Example: Jan 1 (Tuesday) – Jan 8 (Tuesday) = 1 week (7 days).

When checked, the start date is counted as a completed day. Otherwise, the start date is skipped and counting begins from the next day.

When checked, the end date is also counted as a completed day and included in the result. Otherwise, the calculation ends on the previous day.

About This Calculator

This calculator determines how many full calendar weeks (e.g., from Tuesday to Tuesday) and remaining days fit within the period between two selected dates. It works exclusively with calendar days and displays the result in the format "X weeks Y days", as well as showing the total duration in days.

The tool handles any dates–both past and future. You can find out how many weeks have passed since a date or how many weeks remain until a planned event. The calculation follows the standard calendar week: 7 consecutive days, from any day to the same day of the week on the following week.

Calculation Examples

Start Date End Date Weeks Days Total Days
May 5 May 12 1 0 7
August 15 August 25 1 3 10
February 1 March 1 4 0 28
June 20 July 5 2 1 15
March 1 April 1 4 3 31
September 10 October 10 4 2 30
December 25 January 1 1 0 7

The calculation formula is as follows:

Number of weeks = total days ÷ 7, rounded down to the nearest whole number
Remaining days = total days − (number of weeks × 7)

For example, if the total number of days is 10, dividing by 7 gives 1 full week with a remainder of 3 days. Result: 1 week and 3 days.

Detailed Information

Can I calculate a period if the start date is after the end date?

No, the calculator will display an error if the start date is after the end date. Swap the dates to get a valid result.

What do the "Include start date" and "Include end date" settings mean?

They control whether the selected days themselves are counted as part of the calculated period. If the start date is included, it counts as the first day of the period. If the end date is included, it counts as the last day. By combining these options, you can precisely set the boundaries–for example, excluding the start day or including the end day.

Does a leap year affect the calculation?

The calculator takes into account the actual length of each calendar year, including February 29. If your period includes a leap day, it will be counted as one regular day in the total.
